The City is now taking new applicants for work removing snow from City step streets, bus stops and crosswalks during this storm and future storms. Step streets are sets of stairwells that connect streets of very different heights.
Pay is $12 an hour and increases to $18 an hour after 40 hours per week. Payment is by check and normally takes about 4 to 6 weeks.
You must be at least 18 years of age, able to perform heavy physical labor, and eligible to work in the United States. To apply, bring the following to your local Sanitation Garage:
- Two small photos (1.5 inch square). The photos must be the same style as those used for a passport.
- Social security card and photocopy
- Official photo ID (driver’s license, passport, school photo ID, etc.) AND photocopy

You can register at your local Sanitation district garage from Monday through Saturday, 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM (except on City holidays). Find a District Sanitation Garage.
Sanitation will contact registered laborers by phone with instructions on when and where to report for work.
