[Life: List’d] French! Fries!
As anyone who has dined with me knows, pomme frites are my utter and total weakness. I could/would/do eat them anytime, anyplace, on any occasion. Brunch? Why not! 2 a.m.? Why not! Hours before a 1/2 marathon? Definitely.
I’ve only been a NYer for 3 years and I’m still on the hunt for the BEST FRIES EVER but for now, here are a few of my favorites (and I’d love to know yours as well!)
Pommes Frites: belgian style, nationally acclaimed, amazing dipping sauces, open late night
Balthazar: crisp french classic, served morning, noon and night
Loreley: thin, not too greasy, goes well with German beers
JG Melon: cottage fries, somewhat of NY institution
Schiller’s (same recipe/owner as Balthazar)
Rare Bar & Grill: get a basket of fries with dipping sauces
Les Halles: eat with the mussels. YUMM!
Taim: super thin, right amount of crunch, super cheap - great with harissa spicy sauce
Nice Matin: steak fries, served with mayo (I pass on the mayo, but I know many love)
Shake Shack: because you can’t eat a double stack without fries
Spotted Pig: Shoestring delights! Some hate the shoestring but I love it
Union Square Cafe: another famous little fry, crisp, good texture, not too greasy
Telepan: a late night carefully crafted foodie favorite
Artisanal: classically french, completely delicious
Cafe de Bruxelles: belgian crisp delights! just the right amount of salt
Pastis: see Balthazar
Bar Boulud: If they’re good enough for Daniel…
Shopsin’s: go for the cheesy ones, you won’t regret it
Five Guys: steak style, super thick, good amount of crunch, loads of salt](http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kq4njdejI91qz7xu1o1_500.jpg)
